Perfect Marinara Sauce
The name says it all, doesn’t it? This classic, staple marinara recipe stars just six ingredients, making it pretty much foolproof and absolutely delicious.
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil3 garlic cloves, peeled and left whole2 tablespoons Red Gold® Tomato Paste 6 oz1 (28 ounce) can Red Gold® Whole Peeled Tomatoes 28 oz, crushed by hand or 2 (14.5 ounce) cans Red Gold® Whole Peeled Tomatoes 14.5 oz, crushed by hand1/4 teaspoon sugar5 fresh whole basil leavesSalt and black pepper to taste
- Heat oil in skillet, add garlic and cook over medium heat until golden brown, about 5 minutes. Add the tomato paste and cook, stirring for 1 minute.
- Add the whole peeled tomatoes, sugar and basil. Stir to combine and then add salt and black pepper and bring to a boil. Simmer the sauce over low heat, stirring occasionally until thickened and reduced, about 30 minutes. Season again with salt and pepper. Discard basil and garlic.
- Serve over your favorite pasta.
- Garnish with freshly grated Parmesan and torn basil leaves.
